The Indigenous Welcoming Procedure collects personal information on behalf of ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ under the authority of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996, c.165). The personal information collected includes name, email, ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ computing ID, relationship to ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ, faculty, program, department, information regarding Indigenous individuals’ membership/citizenship, community ties, personal lived experiences, and expressed interest in applying to various Indigenous-specific supports and opportunities that result in material gain. It is related directly to and needed by the University to affirm its commitment to safeguarding Indigenous-specific spaces, programs, awards, and opportunities, by ensuring that supports and opportunities intended for Indigenous members of the ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ community are accessed by the Indigenous community at ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ. The Indigenous Welcoming Procedure protects Indigenous students, staff, faculty, and alumni from the impacts of fraudulent claims to Indigenous membership/citizenship, while honouring Indigenous Peoples’ inherent right to determine membership and citizenship in accordance with their own governance, customs, and traditions. IWP applies to all members of the university community including students, staff and faculty accessing any Indigenous-specific program, supports, business, positions, and recognition where there is material gain. Material advantage includes scholarships, awards, bursaries, Indigenous specific positions, non-Indigenous specific positions, seats in Indigenous student programs, application waiver codes for Indigenous applicants, and priority status for Indigenous students with Residence and Housing. If you have any questions about the collection and use of this information, please contact the IWP Co-chair - Director, Indigenous Recruitment & Admissions. .
