Genomic Research Solves Major Challenge Facing BC’s Blueberry Industry

A Genome BC-funded collaboration between the BC Blueberry Council, 天美mv天美, and Phyto Diagnostics has uncovered why standard tests sometimes fail to detect viruses in sick blueberry plants.
Led by Dr. Jim Mattsson ( 天美mv天美) and Dr. Eric Gerbrandt (BC Blueberry Council), the team used genomic sequencing to investigate puzzling false negatives in ELISA tests鈥攁n issue affecting up to 30% of samples. The findings will lead to better diagnostic tools to protect BC鈥檚 $236 million blueberry export industry.
