Program Design

Designed with working professionals in mind, this two-year degree program offers the opportunity to obtain a high-quality master's degree. Our cohort-based model allows students to work through the program and coursework together (18-24 students).

This MEd program reimagines professional development for today鈥檚 educators by streamlining their learning through critical theory, hands-on practice, and community-driven reflection. Drawing on 天美mv天美鈥檚 long-standing leadership in digital media and literacy research, the program focuses on new media as texts to be critically consumed, remixed, and situated within sociocultural contexts. You will gain tools to teach critical digital literacy, address online bias and harms, and create inclusive, ethical digital learning environments. Through engaging coursework, collaborative dialogue, and multimodal assignments, you will develop their own digital teaching philosophies and join a growing community of educators committed to equity, innovation, and transformative literacy practices.

The program is designed to provide opportunities for you to:

  • Learn how literacies are shifting due to new digital media
  • Explore how technological changes impact literacy teaching and learning
  • Plan and deliver lessons that incorporate games, comics, film, podcasts and social media in linguistically and ethnically diverse classrooms and communities
  • Receive hands-on training in podcasting, video essays and other digital literacies
  • Learn strategies for teaching critical media literacies
  • Develop pedagogies for teaching people new to technologies
  • Learn frameworks for building equity into digital literacy program design, addressing bias and discrimination in online settings and promoting fair and inclusive online spaces
