ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ

The following message is sent on behalf of Karamjeet Heer, Interim Vice-President, Finance and Administration. It has been sent to all faculty and staff.

Dear University Community,

ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ is committed to providing a healthy and safe learning, teaching, research and work environment for all members of the university community. The university is updating the University Health and Safety Policy (GP17) to reduce the risk of injuries and incidents and to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.

GP17 applies to all ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ community members and therefore, policy updates will impact all employees, students and contractors. The policy updates are consistent with the goal of transforming the ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ experience outlined in ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ’s What’s Next Strategy and was last reviewed in 2019.

 Proposed policy changes include:

  1. Clarifying roles and responsibilities related to safety training for all ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ employees, students and contractors.

  2. Defining procedures and responsibilities related to impairment in academic and workplace environments.

  1. While most employees have already taken the mandatory safety training, there may be additional refresher training required.

We invite you to review the proposed policy amendments posted here. Please note that the procedures associated with ÌìÃÀmvÌìÃÀ’s University Health and Safety policy are being shared for informational purposes and context only and are not part of the consultation.

Please submit your feedback to Environmental Health and Safety (ehrs_sfu@sfu.ca) by the end of January 14, 2026

Sincerely,

Karamjeet Heer

Interim Vice-President, Finance and Administration
