Dr. Shiv Balram has received the 2020 J. Alistair McVey Award for Teaching Excellence from the Western Division Canadian Association of Geographers (WD-CAG). "The purpose of the J. Alistair McVey Award for Teaching Excellence is to recognize a geography instructor known for the quality of their teaching. This is in recognition of the central importance of teaching excellence in geographic education." The citation statement includes: "Dr. Balram has taught a number of small and large classes within Higher Education, including innovations in online and face-to-face pedagogy, stimulating creative and critical thinking, demonstrated care and passion for student learning, presenting complex information, and enthusiastically mentoring and encouraging students towards careers in academia and the workplace."
