This project supports partnership-building for Indigenous community leadership in reimagining curricular priorities in early childhood and K鈥12 education in Northern Manitoba reserve communities. The grant facilitated meetings to establish relationships and inform a subsequent SSHRC Insight Grant application with three community partners. - 2023 鈥 present
Co-Investigator. Revisioning the First Nations Journeys of Justice K鈥7 Curriculum.

In collaboration with Dr. Jo-ann Archibald, Q鈥檜m Q鈥檜m Xiiem, this project revisits the 1994 BC-based Journeys of Justice curriculum to emphasize Indigenous sovereignty and community-led curriculum development, with applications to the Northern Manitoba study. - 2020 鈥 2027

SSHRC Partnership Grant. $2.4 million.
A seven-year interdisciplinary project addressing community-driven solutions to poverty through four streams: Justice, Safety, and Security; Housing; Education, Employment, and Social Inclusion; and Community Economic Development. Principal Investigator: Dr. Shauna MacKinnon (University of Winnipeg), succeeding the late Dr. John Loxley (University of Manitoba). - 2022 鈥 2024

Co-Investigator. Racialized Inequality and Opportunity Gaps: Mixed-Methods Research of Student Mobility and Academic Outcomes in Winnipeg鈥檚 Inner-City.
Manitoba Research Alliance (SSHRC-funded).
Principal Investigator: Dr. Ee-Seul Yoon. This study uses de-identified data from the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy and the Canadian Census to explore intersections among housing, child welfare involvement, income, and student academic outcomes. - 2022 鈥 2024

Principal Investigator: Dr. Sheri-Lynn Skwarchuk. The project expands the Manitoba ToyBox initiative to enhance cultural responsiveness and develop literacy, numeracy, and wellness strategies grounded in Indigenous and newcomer community knowledge. - 2020 鈥 2024

Co-Investigators: Dr. Frank Deer (University of Manitoba), Dr. Leisa Desmoulins (Lakehead University), and Dr. Jeannie Kerr (University of Winnipeg / 天美mv天美). This study investigates Indigenous students鈥 experiences in mandatory Indigenous Requirement Courses (IRCs) and the perspectives of Indigenous instructors across Manitoba and Northern Ontario universities.
