Eachyear, 天美mv天美 dedicates over $500 million to financial support for undergraduate students, including scholarships, awards, and bursaries for both domestic and international students.

These awards are made possible through the generosity of alumni, community partners, businesses, and organizations who believe in your potential to drive positive change. 

Below you will find detaled information on eligibility criteria, term-by-term financial award offerings, and ways to get help if you need it.

  • Review the high-level criteria required for scholarships and awards below. Ensure you also meet the requirements of the individual award.

Attach Required Documents:

  • Each award will have its own document requirements. Prepare the documents before you apply! Incomplete applications will be closed.

Terms of Reference Conditions:

  • Conduct a keyword search in the database. Your application will not be processed if you do not meet all conditions.  

Submit Your Application:

  • Each semester, you will be able to apply during the application periods. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. 

Eligibility Criteria

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS
  • Have completed a minimum of 12 units at 天美mv天美
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 academic units in the term the scholarship is offered.*
  • Have a minimum CPGA of 3.5 at 天美mv天美
  • Be enrolled in at least 9 academic units in the term the award is offered*
  • Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美), and be in good academic standing

* 6 unit minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning.

** Students in their first semester at 天美mv天美 may be eligible to waive the CGPA requirement for specific awards dependent on the terms of reference.

Bit Quill Technologies Scholarship for Women in Computing Science

Bit Quill Technologies Scholarship for Women in Computing Science (UESO530), 1 x $2,500

One scholarship, valued at $2,500, will be granted to undergraduate female students majoring in Computing Science on the basis of full-time enrollment and excellent academic standing. Preference will be given to female students with demonstrated community/volunteer service.

  1. Completed 12 units at 天美mv天美
  2. Enrolled in at least 12 units in the term the scholarship is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  3. Have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at 天美mv天美

Applications should include:

  1. a CV outlining the candidate's community/volunteer activities

CIBC Undergraduate Award for Women in Faculty of Applied Sciences

CIBC Undergraduate Award for Women in Faculty of Applied Sciences (UPAO348), 1 x $5,000

Three awards, valued at $5,000 each, will be granted annually in any term to undergraduate students who self-identify as women who meet the following criteria:

  1. enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. are pursuing a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in the School of Computing Science in Computing Science or Software Systems or in the School of Engineering Science in Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering;
  4. are enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  5. are in good academic standing; and
  6. have demonstrated engagement in technology-focused work experiences including Co-op or community involvement/activities such as technology-focused clubs and/or student organizations.

Preference will be given to students who are Indigenous, or self-identify as someone from a Racialized Group.

Applications should include:

  1. a r茅sum茅 and/or co-curricular record outlining the applicant鈥檚 involvement in technology-focused work experience or technology-focused community involvement/activities;
  2. a letter of reference from a supervisor or community member who can verify such experiences; and
  3. a brief statement of 500 words or less indicating that the applicant self-identifies as someone from one or more of the preferred groups that qualify for this opportunity.

Computing Science Undergraduate Student Society Award

Computing Science Undergraduate Student Society Award (UEAO042), 5 x $3,200

Five awards, valued at $3,200 each, will be granted annually in any term to undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美) 
  3. are pursuing a bachelor's degree in the School of Computing Science;
  4. are enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  5. are in good academic standing; and
  6. have demonstrated outstanding volunteer/community service involvement to the University.

Each student may receive this award only once. If you have previously been awarded the CSSS Award, you are not eligible.

Applications should include:

  1. a resume outlining the applicant's community/volunteer involvement;
  2. a personal statement outlining community/volunteer involvement; and
  3. a letter of reference from a community member who can verify the  天美mv天美 community/volunteer involvement and the impact of the applicant's role to the 天美mv天美 community.

Engineering Science Student Society Award  

Engineering Science Student Society Award (UEAO512) 2 x $2,300

Two awards, valued at a $2,300 each, will be granted to undergraduate students who meet the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美) 
  3. Are in good academic standing

Application should include:

  1. a letter from the student or the ESSS discussing the student's involvement in and service to the Engineering Science student body

Preference will be given to those students who have not previously received it.

Any member of the Engineering Science Undergraduate student body may nominate a recipient to the Director of the School of Engineering Science. The Director will consult with the ESSS prior to making the recommendation.

Fortinet Award in Cybersecurity

Fortinet Award in Cybersecurity (UPAO342), 1 x $3,500

One award, valued at $3,500 will be granted to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  4. is enrolled in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and majoring in Computing Science, Software Systems, Computer Engineering or Electronics Engineering;
  5. has completed courses in the subject areas of cybersecurity, networking or software security;
  6. emonstrated interest/engagement in cyber/networking or software security-based experiences including Co-op, or community involvement/activities such as cyber/networking/software security focused clubs and/or student organizations.

Preference will be given to those who have not received the award in the past.

Applications should include:

  1. a resume/CV;
  2. a one-page personal letter outlining the applicant's involvement in the experiences/activities listed above;
  3. a letter of reference from an individual in a leadership role or a supervisor who can verify these experiences/activities; and
  4. a brief statement indicating that the applicant self-identifies as someone from one of more of the preferred groups that qualify for this opportunity.

Matthew LeDuc Memorial Scholarship in Computing Science

Matthew LeDuc Memorial Scholarship in Computing Science (UESO329), 1 x $1000

One scholarship, valued at $1,000, will be granted annually in any term to a computing science major who meet the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Completed 12 units at 天美mv天美
  2. Enrolled in at least 12 units in the term the scholarship is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  3. Have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at 天美mv天美
  4. Are enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  5. Are in excellent academic standing

Preference will be given to those who have not received the award in the past.

Applications should include:

  1. a personal statement outlining your experience or excellence within the field of electronics engineering

OSI Maritime Systems Petrus Scott Award in Computing Science

OSI Maritime Systems Petrus Scott Award in Computing Science (UPAO349), 1 x $2,000

One award, valued at $2,000 will be granted to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  4. is enrolled in the School of Computing Science
  5. has demonstrated perseverance in their education journey within the School of Computing Science

Preference will be given to a mature student as defined by  天美mv天美 Admissions. If there are no mature students, this award may be given to the next best candidate.

Applications should include:

  1. a resume/CV; and
  2. a personal statement of no more than 500 words which details the following:
  • How have you preserved so fair in your education journey within the School of Computing Science?
  • What impact do you hope to have on your community after you finish your education in Computing Science?

Parkland Burnaby Refinery Award for Women in Engineering

Parkland Burnaby Refinery Award for Women in Engineering (UPAO341), 1 x $5,000

One award, valued at a minimum of $5,000, will be granted annually in any term to a woman undergraduate student who meets the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility
  4. is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in an engineering program from the School of Engineering Science, the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering, or the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering within the Faculty of Applied Science
  5. has completed 60 units; and
  6. has demonstrated they embrace the principles of safety, integrity, community and respect.

Preference will be given to those who have not received the award in the past.

Applications should include:

  1. a resume/CV; and
  2. a personal statement of no more than 500 words, which details the following:
  • How do you embrace the donor's values of safety, integrity, community, and respect in your daily life?

Parkland Burnaby Refinery Engineering Award for Community Impact

Parkland Burnaby Refinery Engineering Award for Community Impact (UPAO340), 1 x $5,000

One award, valued at $5,000 will be granted to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility
  4. is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in an engineering program from the School of Engineering Science, the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering, or the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering within the Faculty of Applied Science
  5. has completed 60 units; and
  6. demonstrates community engagement.

Preference will be given to those who have not received the award in the past.

  2. a personal statement of no more than 500 words, which details the following:
    • What impact has your community engagement had on you and those you are involved with?
    • How will you incorporate community into your engineering career?

RJC Award for Excellence in Sustainability and Clean Energy (UPAO334), 1 x $2,000

One award, valued at $2,000 will be granted to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;

  • how your studies in this program will help you become a leader in sustainability; and
  • how you incorporate sustainability into your everyday life

Triple A Award in the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering

Triple A Award in the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering (UPAO312), 1 x $1,050

One award, valued at $1,050 will be granted to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美) 
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  4. is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at 天美mv天美 Surrey
  5. in good academic standing; 
  6. has demonstrated leadership skills and/or service to the community

Preference will be given to students enrolled in the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering at 天美mv天美 Surrey, but if no suitable candidate is identified, the award may be disbursed to any student in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at 天美mv天美 Surrey who is in good academic standing with demonstrated leadership skills and/or service to the community.

Basil Peters Electronic Engineering Scholarship

Basil Peters Electronic Engineering Scholarship (UESO-239), 1 x $1,700

One scholarship, valued at $1,700, will be granted annually in any term to undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Completed 12 units at 天美mv天美
  2. Enrolled in at least 12 units in the term the scholarship is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  3. Have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at 天美mv天美
  4. Are enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  5. Have a declared option in electronics engineering; and,
  6. Are in excellent academic standing

Preference, where possible, will be given to students with a focus in high frequency electronics.

Applications should include:

  1. a personal statement outlining your experience or excellence within the field of electronics engineering

Five awards, valued at a $3,200 each, will be granted annually in any term to undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

One award, valued at a $2,500, will be granted annually in any term to an undergraduate student who self-identifies as a woman, and meets the following criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美) 
  3. Are in good academic standing

4.       Has helped foster a welcoming, respectful, kind, and supportive learning environment among their peers; and

5.       Has shown leadership and/or engagement through peer-to-peer activities at 天美mv天美.

Application should include:

1.       A resume/CV outlining relevant experience and interest;

2.       A personal statement of no more than 500 words which details the following:

a.       Your involvement demonstrating leadership and/or engagement in peer-to-peer activities at 天美mv天美?

b.       How have these activities helped foster a welcoming, respectful, kind and supportive learning environment for you and your peers?

Academic-Merit Awards

Application not needed, based on academics:

Computing Science Graduation Award (UEAO0529), 1 x $3,000

  • An award will be given to the top graduating student in Computing Science. If there are two students who qualify the Award will be given to the student who has demonstrated service to the Computing Science undergraduate student body or to the university.

VTech Graduation Prize in Engineering Science (UEAO544), 1 x $1,000

  • An annual award, valued at $1,000, will be awarded to the top Engineering Science undergraduate student from each calendar year's graduating class who successfully completes their degree with the highest CGPA.

FALL SCHOLARSHIPS

Basil Peters Electronic Engineering Scholarship

BASIL PETERS ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP (UESO239) 1 x $1,700

One scholarship, valued at $1,700, will be granted annually in any term to undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility requirements and criteria:

  1. Completed 12 units at 天美mv天美
  2. Enrolled in at least 12 units in the term the scholarship is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  3. Have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at 天美mv天美
  4. Are enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;

One award, valued at a minimum of $3500 will be granted annually to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  1. enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the 天美mv天美 Surrey Campus;
  4. is in good academic standing;
  5. responds to the Bing Thom Foundation call for propsoal; and
  6. has demonstrarted a commitment to impacting and/or improving their community through technology

Application must include:

  1. a resume
  2. a statement (no more than 500 words) that describes how the application has demostrated impacting/improving their community through technology and responds to the Bing Thom Foundation call for proposal (see application form for details).

One award, valued at $4,700 will be granted to an undergraduate student who identifies as a woman and meets the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美) 
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  4. is enrolled in the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering;
  5. in good academic standing; 
  6. has demonstrated leadership skills through invovlement, volunteering, leadership, and/or service to their school; and
  7. has interest in pursuing a career in engineering after their studies.

Preference will be given to students in their first year of studies.

  2. a personal statement of no more than 500 words outlining the applicant's interest to pursue a career in engineering and how they have demostrated leadership in their community and/or school.

Three awards, valued at $5,000 each, will be granted annually in any term to undergraduate students who self-identify as women who meet the following criteria:

Dr. William A. Gruver Engineering Science Memorial Award (UEAO583) 1 x $1,000

One award, valued at $1000 will be granted to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  3. is enrolled full-time in a major or joint major program in the School of Engineering Science;

  2. have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美);
  3. is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;
  4. is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in the Faculty of Applied Sciences;

  6. has completed 60 units;
  7. has completed at least one term-equivalent of related work experience;

Engineering Science Student Society Award  

Engineering Science Student Society Award (UEAO512) 4 x $2,300

Four awards, valued at a $2,300 each, will be granted to undergraduate students who meet the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美) 
  3. Are in good academic standing

Application should include:

  1. a letter from the student or the ESSS discussing the student's involvement in and service to the Engineering Science student body

Preference will be given to those students who have not previously received it.

Any member of the Engineering Science Undergraduate student body may nominate a recipient to the Director of the School of Engineering Science. The Director will consult with the ESSS prior to making the recommendation.


Jesse Malm Award in Engineering Science

Jesse Malm Award in Engineering Science (UEAO620) 1 x $1,050

One award valued at $1,050 will be granted to a undergraduate student who meet the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  1. Enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)

Justin Xie Memorial Award in Computing Science (UPAO355) 1 x $5,000

One award, valued at a $5,000, will be granted to an undergraduate student who meets the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  • enrolled in at least 9 units in the term the award is being offered (6 units minimum allowed for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning)
  • have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美)
  • is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Applied Sciences with a declared major or honours in the School of Computing Science;
  • is in good academic standing; and 
  • has demonstrated exceptional accomplishments, promise, or innovation in the area of artifical intelligence outside of classroom work

Preference will be given to students who show an interest in railway transportation systems.

Applications must include:

  1. a resume outlining relevant accomplishments relating to artificial intelligence;
  2. a personal statement of no more than 500 words which details the following:
    • Describe how and why you are passionate about the potential for artificial intelligence to shape the future of technology?
    • How have you shown promise or innovation outside of the classroom in the area of artificial intelligence?

  3. is majoring in Sustainable Energy Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Sciences; and

The $2,500 award will be granted to a female student who fulfills the following eligibilty requirements and criteria:

  2. Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 at 天美mv天美 (waived in your first term at 天美mv天美) 
  3. is enrolled full-time and majoring in a Computing Science stream in the Faculty of Applied Sciences;

Stolte Family Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship in Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) 

Created to help attract dynamic students to the SEE program, and to transform their university experience, this new entrance scholarship was established with a generous donation from 天美mv天美 alumnus Christopher Stolte and his wife Heidi in 2024. The value of this renewable scholarship will have a significant impact on recipients by covering the costs of 天美mv天美 tuition, books and other expenses for the duration of their undergraduate degree in SEE.  

How To Apply

To be considered for the Stolte Family Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship in Sustainable Energy Engineering, students must complete the online 天美mv天美 Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarships (USES) program. 

For admission in fall 2025, students must complete the 天美mv天美 USES application by December 15, 2024.

Eligibility

The Stolte Family Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship in SEE will be granted annually in the fall term to an undergraduate student who meets the following criteria: 

  • are Canadian citizens or permanent residents; 
  • are entering 天美mv天美 from a secondary school with grades in the 90% range or 31 International Baccalaureate (IB) points in courses required for their selected program; 
  • are admitted into a bachelor鈥檚 degree program in the School of Sustainable Engineering; and are registered in at least 12 standard graded units at 天美mv天美 in the term of eligibility.  

Award Value: $50,000

Cansbridge Fellowship

Each year, the Cansbridge Fellowship selects a small cohort of Canadian university students with exceptional leadership and entrepreneurial potential to complete a self-organized internship in Asia and join a lifelong community.  

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a program at a Canadian University or College
  • Valid passport and Canadian bank account
  • Available to participate in weekly onboarding sessions between January and April
  • Available travel to a major North American entrepreneurial hub in early May for the 9-day Cansbridge Fellowship Bootcamp and Conference
  • Available to work in-person in Asia for a minimum of 10 weeks during the next available work term after the Cansbridge Fellowship Conference
