The review and recertification of all Writing, Quantitative, and Breadth designations took place from May 2023 to March 2026. This is consistent with the recommendations approved by Senate in April 2023 in S.23-48 (/content/dam/sfu/senate/senate-documents/2023/0403/S.23-48.pdf). Any designations that were not recertified will be removed, effective Fall 2026.

Designations that were unrequested and removed in Fall 2026 may be requested again after September 1, 2027.

Designations that were requested and denied may not reapply for the same designation unless a large fundamental revision has been made. Following revisions, these designations may be requested again after September 1, 2027.

New designations can be submitted to wqb@sfu.ca as needed without delay. Please submit designation requests prior to course approval at SCUS. Certification forms can be found here. 

New certifications will be reflected in the academic calendar as soon as possible. This supports calendar publication guidelines which prioritize student focused changes in the next available calendar cycle.
