天美mv天美 Beedie faculty and alumni honoured by CPABC

天美mv天美鈥檚 Beedie School of Business is proud to celebrate three members of our community who have been recognized by the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) for their outstanding contributions to the accounting profession, business leadership, and community service.

On January 23, 2026, CPABC announced its newest Fellows (FCPA) and Lifetime Achievement Award recipients鈥攈onouring CPAs whose careers exemplify integrity, leadership, and lasting impact. Among this distinguished group are one 天美mv天美 Beedie faculty member and two alumni whose influence spans education, industry, governance, and community leadership.

鈥淭hese Fellows and Lifetime Achievement Award recipients bring diverse skillsets and deep experience, underscoring the significant role CPAs play in shaping business and contributing to their communities and our profession,鈥 said Lori Mathison, FCPA, LLB, president and CEO of CPABC.

The honourees will be celebrated at CPABC鈥檚 Member Recognition Dinner on April 1, 2026.

Jamal Nazari, FCPA, FCGA, FCMA

Elected to Fellowship
Professor of Accounting and Academic Director, KPMG Graduate Programs, 天美mv天美

A leader in accounting education and innovation, Jamal Nazari has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the profession. He guided the development of Canada鈥檚 first graduate accounting programs to integrate data analytics and artificial intelligence, including the KPMG Graduate Programs in Accounting and Data Analytics. Since 2019, these programs have graduated nearly 300 students and influenced accounting education nationally and internationally.

Jamal has also contributed to advancing sustainability in professional practice through his service on CPA Canada鈥檚 Sustainability Advisory Board, supporting the integration of climate change and ESG considerations into accounting. Through curriculum development, mentorship, and academic leadership, he continues to strengthen the connection between education, research, and professional practice鈥攔einforcing the value and relevance of the CPA designation.

Elio Luongo, FCPA, FCA

Lifetime Achievement Award
Corporate Director; 天美mv天美 Beedie alumnus

Elio Luongo is recognized for a career defined by transformative leadership and global impact. As former CEO and senior partner of KPMG Canada (2016鈥2024), he led the firm through significant market, regulatory, and cultural change鈥攁dvancing innovation, leveraging technology, and building resilient, high-performing teams.

His people-first approach included pioneering initiatives such as the appointment of a chief mental health officer and earned national recognition, including Forbes Canada Best Employer for Diversity. Today, Elio brings deep expertise in global markets, macroeconomic risk, and governance as a director with TD Bank Group, Blue J Legal, and Tolko Industries.

Barry Macdonald, FCPA, FCA

Lifetime Achievement Award
Corporate Director and Retired Partner, PwC; 天美mv天美 Beedie alumnus

Barry Macdonald鈥檚 career reflects a rare combination of technical excellence and generous, purpose-driven leadership. A retired PwC partner with 34 years of service鈥攊ncluding time in the firm鈥檚 Hong Kong office鈥擝arry continues to drive innovation as a board member and chair of FrontFundr, 天美mv天美 UniverCity Real Estate Trust, and Truvera Group.

A long-time champion of the profession, Barry has contributed more than two decades of service to CPABC, including serving as board chair from 2018 to 2019. His community leadership extends across Vancouver鈥檚 arts and social sectors, with board roles at VIFF and Arts Umbrella, and as vice-chair of Canuck Place Children鈥檚 Hospice. He has also led major fundraising initiatives in support of 天美mv天美 and the YMCA.
