Aryana Mohammed Receives Mitacs Globalink Research Award

April 09, 2026

We are pleased to share that Aryana Mohammed has received a Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) to support an international research internship at the University of Exeter in Fall 2026.

As part of this award, Aryana will spend 12 weeks at the University of Exeter under the supervision of Dr. Jennifer Lay, a co-investigator on the COPE project. Her internship is expected to run from approximately September 2026 to December 2026 and will focus on writing up study findings and supporting international knowledge mobilization initiatives connected to the project Promoting Heat Resilience among Older Adults through Group-Based Arts.

This multi-year initiative addresses climate-related vulnerability among older adults, with a particular focus on heat stress and anxiety. The project involves designing, facilitating, and evaluating a multi-arts workshop for community-dwelling older adults in Metro Vancouver who are experiencing heat stress and anxiety. The workshop will culminate in a public dramatic production, highlighting the value of creative, community-driven approaches to climate resilience.

Through this internship, Aryana will contribute to sharing findings from the arts intervention and advancing international knowledge mobilization efforts in collaboration with Dr. Lay. The evaluation findings have strong potential to address an important gap in research on climate change and the health of older adults, while also contributing to gerontological literature on aging, resilience, and community-based participatory research.

The project may also strengthen evidence for the uptake of arts interventions in the health sector and social prescribing initiatives, inform policy through community health programming, and provide a foundation for future arts-based participatory research with older adults.

We are excited to see Aryana continue this important work through this international collaboration.
