Dr. Wendy Sarkissian Receives the GRC Seniors Leadership Award
We are pleased to share that Dr. Wendy Sarkissian has received the GRC Seniors Leadership Award, recognizing her lifelong leadership in advocacy, community engagement, and continued commitment to justice and action in later life.
Wendy is an internationally recognized author, community planner, activist, and educator. She holds a doctorate in environmental ethics, is a Life Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia, and formerly served as an Adjunct Professor in UBC鈥檚 School of Community and Regional Planning.
Within COPE, Wendy has helped shape the project鈥檚 direction by consistently centering the lived realities and rights of older adults. As a member of our Older Adult Advisory Board, she has contributed extensive time advising on research design and decision-making, reinforcing a core principle of COPE: older adults are active participants and advocates who should help shape heat preparedness and response.
Congratulations, Wendy, on this well-deserved recognition. We are grateful for the care, courage, and clarity you bring to COPE and to heat response work.
